This was lovely, thank you. <3 I was transformed by Joni in college, in a summer when I was in too many dive bars, with a full heart and "wrecked stockings" (iykyk). Adored so many gems of hers ever since. <3
I love that :) too many dives with a full heart is, like, the perfect place for Joni to come in. What was so cool about the concert and relistening to these songs was getting immediate access to those memories of young love that like, idk, I just kind of forgot? I forgot all about the goth chick that accidentally got me hooked to Joni Mitchell until I was writing and i was like wow, thank you goth chick, absolute legend! But anyways i'm glad that you enjoyed, and thank you for everything you do <3
This was so beautiful! I’ve never listened to Joni Mitchell’s catalog- have only heard a song or two here and there. I was very emotionally moved by her performance at the Grammys last year, and have been meaning to take the dive into her catalog ever since.
Music has been my closest friend for most of my life. Seeing people live has been mostly such an awesome experience. I can relate with your Bob Dylan story though. I just had a similar experience (a first for me). Everclear played a show here at a local venue. I was not going to miss it, and had been looking forward to it for months! They sounded terrible live and I was so disappointed!
ahhh it's worth taking a dive into her catalog! That sounds rough with Everclear. I don't know how it felt with them, but what I remember feeling about Bob Dylan in concert is that it felt like he didn't really care, which is even worse to me than sounding bad or having an off night. Joni Mitchell felt like the complete opposite of that, she deeply cared in a way that feels incredibly rare
Aw i'm glad you loved it. Yeah, she's really one of those musicians whose music transports me to an entirely different time in my life (but not in a bad way)! So easy to lose sight of those memories
michael i am crying in the airport
:)) my goal! so glad you enjoyed it.
(Also, I was going to reach out when I was in LA but my weekend was too short. Next time i'm in LA though I will reach out!!)

Oh wow, what an incredible experience! Joni is a major figure on the soundtrack to my oldest friendships. Absolutely loved this.
